Elizabeth (Betty) Mary Glozier (nee Glenday)

A celebration of life will be held for Betty Glozier on Saturday May 9th, 2015 at Beaver Valley Ski Club. All welcome.

After several years of declining health, Betty Glozier passed away recently at the Erringrung Nursing Home in Thornbury.  Betty was a long time member of both BVSC and the Beaver Valley (now River) Tennis Club…and very active in both skiing and tennis.  Since the early 90’s she and her husband Ernie, had resided full time at Beaver Valley in their chalet on Windy Lane.

Interested in volunteering as a BV Board Member?

The Club has a 9 person, volunteer Board of Directors which provide governance and give guidance for Club Affairs. Tim Foster, our General Manager, operates as the CEO of the Club. The Board members typically serve a 3 year term and give guidance and support to Tim and the Club Staff and are a key link to membership. The positions are structured carefully to provide the Club needed skills to round out and support excellent Staff. We are looking for volunteers or nominations for 1 position: Secretary. If you, or someone you know has the skills that we are looking for and would like to get involved in this way, please let us know. Tim Topornicki, our Club President, is the head of the Nominating Committee. Please email Tim at timt@topperlinen.com by March 22nd.

Secretary:

The secretary helps to provide ongoing guidance to the governance of the Club organization and function.  The Secretary should have:

  • A passion for meeting people
  • Be an organized person with a strong knowledge of the legal system
  • Familiar with Club governance principles and bylaw interpretations
  • The secretary is the clerk of meetings of directors and members and shall record or cause to be recorded minutes of all proceeedings in the books kept for that purpose.
  • The secretary shall give or cause to b given all notices required to be given to members and to directors.
  • He or she shall be custodian of the seal of the Club and of all books, papers, records, correspondence, contracts and other documents belonging to the Club which shall be delivered up only when authorized by the directors.
  • The secretary shall perform such other duties as may from time to time be determined by the directors

 

General BV Board Member Duties (all positions):

– Attending monthly Board meetings with Club GM to offer input to decisions to assist the GM.  These are typically 3 hours long.

– Assisting defining and developing the future strategy and direction for either the Club as a whole, or for a specific portfolio;

– Setting policy when required which can act as guideposts for Club Management.

– Providing (or helping the GM to obtain) occasional expertise or resources that are not present in the Club Management team (e.g. Legal advice);

– Listening actively to input and suggestions from Membership at Large and also assisting in the communications of the ‘Why’ behind various decisions to Members.

BV racer Matthew Fields wins 2 silver and 1 gold medal at Special Olympic Ontario Winter Games

IMG_1738After 4 years of training Matt won two silver and a gold medal at the Special olympic Ontario Winter Games in North Bay at the end of January.  The gold came in the slalom race where matt had the fastest time of all the athletes.

It was an amazing weekend for all of the athletes, many thanks to all the coaches who have helped Matt at beaver valley and a special thanks to the Beaver Valley 180 riders for their commitment to Special Olympics.

BV Chalet Owners’ Association AGM

The Beaver Valley Chalet Owners’ Association Annual General meeting will be held this Saturday January 10, 2015 at 4pm in the Keg.

New Member Day Saturday January 10, 2015

New Member Families come & join us for breakfast in Silver Creek at 9:30am this Saturday.  Drop your kids into programs and head in for breakfast or if you have plans to ski with your kids bring them along to breakfast.

At breakfast you will have an opportunity to meet the Board of Directors and some of the Staff. If you would like to ski or snowboard after breakfast with some of us…President Tim Topornicki  for example…you can join these folks after breakfast and makes some turns on the snow.

After a day on the slopes head back to the Silver Creek at 3:30pm for our new member and referring member families for an Apres Ski. We’re doing our best to invite all of the referring families to the Apres and if your speaking with your fellow club friends please spread the word.

At 3:30 in Fireside Room there will be a Kids Apres!

Where to watch the Canada Day Fireworks in Grey County

Canada Day 2014 is just around the corner and if Fireworks are on your “Must Do” list read on for the list of locations for Tuesday July 1, 2014.

Bring your picnic lunch, beverage and chair…dessert will be provided.  Meet your neighbours and connect with our community leaders.  Kids activities and amusement.

Canada Day Festivities & Parade Clarksburg – Thornbury…Mr & Mrs Beaver will be stepping out to this join in the parade. You are welcome to join them in their walk along the route from Clarksburg to Thornbury harbour or cheer them on from the sidewalk.
